What is Gum Disease?

Gum or periodontal disease is an infectious condition that can result in the inflammatory destruction of gums and the supporting bone of the teeth. When the inflammation becomes well established it can allow bacterial toxins into the blood stream. When left untreated this can contribute to more serious conditions such as: Acute gum infection & dental pain Loose teeth & cavities Aspiration pneumonia Complicate existing diabetes Heart attack & Stroke Pre-mature birth & low weight babies
